Prof. Dr. Jürgen Renn

Director – Structural Changes in Systems of Knowledge / Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin

Jürgen Renn, a studied physicist, is director at the MPIWG in Berlin since it’s foundation in 1994. His research deals with long-term developments of knowledge, taking into account globalization processes and the historical dynamics that led to the Anthropocene. Based on his research a theory of the evolution of knowledge emerged, that incorporates cognitive dynamics as well as social contexts, opening up new approaches, particularly in the field of digital humanities.

Jürgen Renn is strongly committed to communicating scientific knowledge to the public, he is also involved in the sustainability discussion at the intersection between science and politics.
