Songbird: a virtual moment of extinction

Lucy Greenwell invites her visitors to seek out the ʻōʻō in a forest using a VR headset. And suddenly one of them is perched on a tree stump right in front of us. A melodic whistling emerges from the small black bird’s throat. But the search does leave a bitter aftertaste: The ʻōʻō is the last one of its species.
