Lena Tonzer has been a professor at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg since April 2023 and a research associate in the Department of Financial Markets at Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) since May 2014. She heads the research group Regulation of International Financial Markets and International Banking and the International Banking Library. She has also been a SUERF Research Affiliate since 2019. She led the ESF project The Political Economy of the European Banking Union from 2017-2022 and conducts research on banking and sovereign debt crises, financial market integration, and banking regulation. Lena Tonzer studied at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and received her PhD from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. From 2017 to 2021 she taught at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, and from 2021 to 2023 at VU Amsterdam.
