Prof. Dr. Jutta Allmendinger

Prof. Dr. h.c. Jutta Allmendinger, Ph.D. is President of the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, Professor of Educational Sociology and Labor Market Research at the Humboldt University, Berlin; and Honorary Professor of Sociology at Freie Universität Berlin.

She studied sociology and social psychology in Mannheim and Madison, Wisconsin, received her doctorate from Harvard University and habilitated at the Free University of Berlin. From 1992 to 2007 she was a professor at Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, and from 2003 to 2007 she was director of the Institute of Employment Research in Nuremberg.

She has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Communicator Prize - Science Award of the “Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft” and the Schader Prize, among others. In 2014, she was awarded an honorary doctorate of the University of Tampere.

Jutta Allmendinger is active in numerous advisory boards in Germany and abroad. Since 2016, she has been a member of the supervisory board of the Berlin City Cleaning BSR. In May 2017, Jutta Allmendinger was appointed as editor to the new five-member editorial board of the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT. Jutta Allmendinger was nominated by the German Foreign Office for the Thomas Mann Fellowship, as part of which she lived and worked at the Thomas Mann House in Los Angeles for four months in 2018. In early 2021, she became an appointed member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
