Light, Beats & Fun on the Marketplace

Imagine stepping back to the very beginnings of cinema — right in the middle of a public square and powered by your own muscle strength. That’s exactly what Loop makes possible: a retro-futuristic art installation.

Six oversized image cylinders, reminiscent of a 19th-century zoetrope, bring literary works by authors from the Québec region to life in short, animated clips.

The magic only begins when visitors take a seat and work the lever together — setting the mesmerizing interplay of light, image, and sound in motion. The energy you generate powers the illusion of moving images, and the speed of the animation depends entirely on how vigorously you turn the lever.

Loop is an experience full of poetry, playfulness, and shared joy — a tribute to the birth of cinema and a powerful symbol of how collective action can generate future energy.

Loop brings literature to life!

This playful installation celebrates the rich literary landscape of Québec — transforming it into captivating moving images right in the heart of the marketplace. Four of the six featured Loop works have been officially published in Germany:

Fanny Cloutier – Youth novel / Stéphanie Lapointe / Loewe Verlag
